Job brief

We are looking for a Purchasing Assistant to order supplies and equipment based on our company’s needs.

Purchasing Assistant responsibilities include researching new vendors, tracking deliveries and updating order records (e.g. dates, invoices and discounts.) If you’re familiar with supply chain procedures and know how to create and translate cost analyses, we’d like to meet you.

Ultimately, you will make cost-effective purchases and ensure we maintain a fully stocked inventory.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor stock levels and identify purchasing needs
  • Research potential vendors
  • Track orders and ensure timely delivery
  • Update internal databases with order details (dates, vendors, quantities, discounts)
  • Conduct market research to identify pricing trends
  • Evaluate offers from vendors and negotiate better prices

Job Requirements:

Essential Functions

 The main function of this role is the assembly of switchgear from the erection of the structure to the final wiring of the electrical components. The technician will reference engineering documents to guide them in the building of the structure, assembling of the mechanical bus and the wiring of the controls. This position builds on the level 1 position by adding the requirements to build highly complex switchgear panels and interacting with engineering changes.

DESCRIPTION

  • Measure, track and monitor work area productivity and implement improvements where possible.
  • Measure, track and monitor Associate productivity and make recommendations to Programs staff as well as providing training needed to improve productivity.
  • Assist with development and implementation of Associate attendance improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure Quality and Production training is performed adequately in the production work areas and that all training is fully documented.
  • Assist with job quotation process through the conducting of the time studies of new production opportunities.
  • Utilize time studies from quotation process to develop a time expectation for each job assigned to a work cell.
  • Track and improve work cell productivity.
  • Learn and implement work process improvements and work simplification techniques to improve job set up and production efficiency.
  • Study production processes for efficiency and simplicity so that tasks are accomplished in the shortest time at the least cost while providing appropriate oversight and reporting.
  • Set production standards for each job that consumers will regularly perform for more than 8 weeks.
  • Track monthly rating submissions to ensure completion in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensure any special ratings for new hires or as needed are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Provide support and training to ensure consumer ratings are a true reflective measure of each individual’s regular productivity over time.
  • Regular successful and cooperative communication with production and programs staff.
  • Maintain accurate database of completed production ratings and produce required monthly reports of ratings outcomes and pay adjustments.
  • Maintain accurate records of type of work and hours worked for all consumers paid at special minimum wage to meet Department of Labor requirements.
  • Provide new hire and annual Production Ratings Training for DECI Production Supervisors and Lead Supervisors. Ensure all other staff have basic understanding of the consumer ratings and pay process.
  • Perform audits under DECI’s Quality Management System.
  • Maintain superior level of understanding of the changing regulations set forth by the Department of Labor and how it relates to DECI. Ensure full compliance with Department of Labor 14(c) requirements.
  • Conduct the Prevailing Wage Survey annually or more often if the Federal Minimum Wage is adjusted. Produce pay change reports that result from the survey.
  • Bi-annual preparation of 14(c) certificate renewal request to the Department of Labor.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma/GED with additional related training. Degree preferred.
  • Experience/training in vocational rehabilitation and/or engineering standards setting.
  • Experience in developing and implementing a quality assurance program (ISO 9000 familiarity)
  • Excellent communications skills and strong business writing skills.
  • Proficiency in math; ability to multiply, divide, use fractions and percentages.
  • Understanding of strict confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions independently, plan and organize work.
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. A personal vehicle may be needed for some tasks.
  • Detailed-oriented, strong organizational skills; ability to maintain easy accessibility to records & information.
  • Flexibility in work and thought is important.
