Pay: $15.00-$16.00/Per Hour
Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled Metallurgical Technician to test and analyze metals and alloys to ensure they meet quality, safety, and performance standards. The ideal candidate will have experience in metallurgical sample preparation, mechanical testing, microscopy, and failure analysis, with a strong understanding of industry standards and material properties.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform metallurgical sample preparation including sectioning, mounting, grinding, and polishing
- Conduct mechanical testing, including:
- Hardness testing (Vickers, Knoop, Rockwell, and Brinell)
- Tensile strength evaluations
- Investigate broken, failed, or defective metal components to determine the root cause of failure
- Examine and analyze material microstructures using optical microscopy and metallographic techniques
- Ensure materials and testing procedures meet applicable industry standards, including ASTM and ISO
- Document test results, prepare reports, and communicate findings to engineering and quality teams
- Maintain laboratory equipment and follow established safety and quality procedures

Required Knowledge & Skills
- Detail-oriented problem solver with strong technical and analytical skills.
- Familiarity with metal grades, including: Stainless steels Tool steels and tooling alloys Other ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
- Experience investigating failed, damaged, or defective metal components to determine the root cause of failure
- Strong understanding of metals, alloys, material properties, and quality requirements
- Ability to interpret test results and ensure compliance with ASTM, ISO, and other applicable industry standards
- Strong mechanical aptitude, analytical thinking, and attention to detail
Plus / Bonus Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with metallurgical sample preparation, including sectioning, mounting, grinding, and polishing. Knowledge of material processing is a plus!
- Proficiency in mechanical testing methods, including hardness testing (Vickers, Knoop, Rockwell, and Brinell) and tensile strength evaluations
- Experience using optical microscopes and metallographs to examine grain structures and material microstructures
- Familiarity with metal grades such as stainless steels, tool steels, and specialty alloys
- Knowledge of material processing methods, including heat treatment, and their impact on material properties and performance
- Previous experience in a metallurgical laboratory, materials testing, quality control, or manufacturing environment
