Soldering Repair Technician – 2nd Shift
Schedule: 2:30 PM – 11:00 PM (Monday – Friday)
Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Soldering Repair Technician to join our 2nd shift team. This role involves performing precision soldering work on Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBA), including manual solder touch-up, component replacement, and repair. The ideal candidate has hands-on soldering experience, technical knowledge of electronic assemblies, and a strong commitment to quality.
About Soldering in Assembly
In electronics manufacturing, soldering is the process of joining electrical components to a circuit board by melting a filler metal (solder). This creates both a mechanical bond and an electrical connection that ensures the component functions reliably within the circuit. Manual soldering requires great precision, as components are often extremely small and densely packed on the board. Skilled soldering ensures connections meet IPC industry standards for durability and performance.
What is PCBA?
A Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) is a circuit board that has its electronic components such as resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, microchips, and connectors soldered and mounted in place. These components control the flow of electricity and signals across the device. As a Soldering Repair Technician, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring defective or misaligned parts are repaired or replaced to restore full functionality.
The Boards You’ll Work On
You will work on Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), which serve as the foundation of nearly all electronic devices.
- Through-Hole Boards – Components with wire leads that are inserted into drilled holes and soldered on the opposite side.
- Surface-Mount Technology (SMT) Boards – Miniaturized components soldered directly to the surface of the board.
Technicians must be comfortable with both technologies, performing precise soldering and rework on small, delicate parts.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform manual solder touch-up, rework, and component replacement on PCBA boards.
- Diagnose and repair defective components to meet customer and quality standards.
- Maintain high levels of precision and accuracy in all repair activities.
- Collaborate with team members and support cross-training initiatives.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Previous experience in manual soldering, component replacement, and electronic repair.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical instructions.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team-oriented environment.
- Willingness to cross-train in multiple PCBA-related areas.
Preferred Certifications (a plus, but not required)
- IPC-A-610: Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies (quality and workmanship standards).
- J-STD-001: Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies.
- IPC-7711/7721: Rework, Modification, and Repair of Electronic Assemblies.
These certifications demonstrate a high level of soldering skill and knowledge of industry best practices. Candidates with these credentials are strongly encouraged to apply.
