Job Summary:
Manages the production activities consistent with World-Class Safety, Quality, and Efficiency. Within assigned scope of responsibility, maximize production output / efficiencies and product quality standards through a coordinated effort with manufacturing personnel and support departments (Production Control, Engineering, Quality, Machine Shop and Maintenance). Fulfill the Production Control, Customer Service, Engineering and R&D demands as outlined in the posted schedule, on time, with budgeted production resources.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
– Responsible for production budget control (costs related to supplies, repair parts, labor, materials, etc.) to include costs associated with Engineering / R&D work (allocated line time, production resources, etc.).
– Responsible for rubber and plastic extrusion and related secondary operations, to include packaging.
– Responsible for production quality, output and related efficiencies (material usage, scrap rates, etc.) Through a coordinated effort with the IT group, ensure accurate production standards are presented in the ERP system.
– Provide guidance and on the job training for new production operators. Operators must have the ability to independently manage assigned responsibility for production. Where applicable per the in-process inspection procedure, operators will utilize profile print and measure and record product dimension using calipers and optical comparator.
– Using calipers and optical comparator, independently conduct periodic production quality audits to ensure product produced by subordinate operators meets company quality standards.
– Where applicable, stop the production operator to alert them of quality problems with their production. Take the opportunity to re-train said operator on inspection technique. Emphasis the operator is empowered to scrap material and when the operator cannot control the process the operator should immediately call for help and or stop production.
– Working within budget constraints, maintain (interview and hire) the necessary level of production personnel required to meet production schedules.
– Adhere to all established Human Resources requirements for personnel training and development.
– Regularly appraise subordinate performance, reward / discipline, address complaints and resolve issues as required.
– Maintain an accident prevention attitude among all subordinates through regularly scheduled departmental safety meetings. Post safety posters, signs, etc., to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.
– Ensure all functions / operations within the scope of assigned responsibility have a current written Job Safety Analysis.
– Ensure department subordinates adhere to organizational safety requirements (personal protective equipment, etc.).
– Lead the investigation of accidents / injuries within the department. Maintain department safety files and records.
– Monitor facility housekeeping / department organization within scope of responsibility. Conduct regular inspection tours of the department to detect existing or potential accident and / or health hazards. Where applicable, determine corrective or preventative actions and follow-up to ensure measures have been implemented, to include documentation.
– Plan assign and direct production resources to meet production schedules, customer requirements, Engineering / R&D trials as efficiently as possible (time and money).
– Ensure subordinates have the necessary resources to accomplish assigned tasks (tools, training, understanding, experience, etc.).
– Ensure manufacturing subordinates understand they are responsible and will be held accountable for the quality of the product they produce.
– Ensure subordinates adhere to the procedures / instructions outlined within the shop traveler.
– Maintain accurate attendance records.
– Maintain accurate production records, to include manufacturing efficiencies, product produced and current material scrap records.
– Adhere to the production schedule established by Production Control.
– Maintain raw and finished goods material inventory consistent with company policy. Communicate raw and finished goods material inventory issues in a timely manner.
– Ensure a coordinated first in first out raw material usage.
– Conduct inventory cycle counts as required
– Work to determine root cause analysis of process problems through a coordinated effort with assigned operators, Manufacturing Management, Engineering, Quality, Maintenance and Machine Shop personnel.
– Work to continually improve production processes and related efficiencies.
– Develop subordinate awareness for material usage and scrap reduction opportunities
– Identify cost reduction opportunities within the department and facility as a whole.
– Facilitate Engineering / R&D projects as required (new tooling / product quotes).
– Assume ownership for equipment within the scope of responsibility (identify process critical equipment and coordinate spare part inventory of said equipment with the maintenance group).
– Ensure subordinates maintain responsibility for issued tools. At a minimum of once per month, conduct regular equipment audits of issued tools (i.e., calipers) to ensure calibration and proper working order (care and maintenance). Immediately notify the Quality Assurance department of any measurement equipment issues and document all equipment audits.
– Work with the facility maintenance group to ensure production equipment is maintained in good working order (follow outlined manufacturing PM requirements, i.e., filter changes etc.).
– Recommend new engineering and production equipment purchases to maintain World Class manufacturing and engineering standards for safety, quality, and efficiency.
– Work with subordinates and support departments (Engineering, Quality, Maintenance and Machine Shop personnel) to minimize Manufactured Material Discrepancy Reports (MMDR) customer complaints and or returned goods (RMA’s) for quality reasons.
– Maintain good communication with the Sales Group and Production Control so that customer requirements are met and to ensure the most efficient use of production resources.
