Location: St. Paul, MN
Pay Range: $23.00–$30.00 per hour
Shift: Monday–Thursday, 6:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.; Friday, 6:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Large Press Set-Up Operator III to support high-volume metal stamping operations. This role requires expert-level press setup skills, strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to troubleshoot complex tooling and press issues independently. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and capable of mentoring less experienced operators while maintaining high standards of quality and productivity.
A Day in the Life
• Read and interpret complex blueprints, job routings, and work instructions
• Expertly set up and operate large presses to achieve quality parts and maximum production efficiency
• Set up all types of complex tooling, including draws, forms, and progressive dies
• Stage all required materials so production can begin without delay
• Use dispatch displays to determine job priorities and next setups
• Conduct root cause analysis on die or press issues and coordinate with toolroom and maintenance for repairs
• Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety
• Perform precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, and tape measures
• Inspect materials and finished parts for defects and verify compliance with specifications
• Identify and label materials accurately using tags or labels
• Perform routine mechanical maintenance and maintain a clean, organized work area
• Train and mentor Level I and II Set-Up Operators
• Capture and document work instructions to ensure consistent setups and production runs
• Accurately enter production and quality data into the company data collection system
• Follow all established safety procedures and compliance guidelines
• Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Have expert-level knowledge of press setups and tooling
- Can read and interpret complex blueprints with confidence
- Are highly detail-oriented with strong inspection and quality skills
- Excel at troubleshooting and resolving press or tooling issues independently
- Manage time effectively to meet production schedules
- Communicate clearly with production, maintenance, and tooling teams
- Enjoy mentoring and supporting the development of less experienced operators
- Prioritize safety, quality, and continuous improvement
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
- 3+ years of experience in metal fabrication or related work
