Laser Operator – 2nd Shift (Temp-to-Hire)
Location: Brooklyn Park, MN
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 1:00 PM–10:00 PM
Pay: $19.00–$24.00 per hour (depending on experience)
Position Overview
A growing manufacturing company in Brooklyn Park, MN is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Laser Operator for a full-time, temp-to-hire opportunity on 2nd shift. This position is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining laser cutting equipment and additional production machinery. The Laser Operator plays an essential role in producing high-quality components while meeting productivity, quality, and safety expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Operation and Setup
- Read and interpret job tickets, CAD layouts, blueprints, and production specifications.
- Set up and operate laser cutting machines and related production equipment.
- Perform make-readies, including installation of tooling, dies, counters, and other setup components.
- Monitor machines throughout production to ensure consistent quality and accuracy.
- Perform periodic quality checks and approve work before moving jobs to the next step.
- Operate finishing and support machinery as needed, such as strippers, blankers, punch presses, tapers, and guillotines.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, and preventive maintenance.
- Identify and correct minor mechanical issues; escalate complex problems to maintenance or supervisors.
- Maintain accurate logs of downtime, production counts, and machine performance.
Quality and Safety
- Ensure all products meet customer and company quality standards.
- Track and minimize scrap, waste, and material usage.
- Complete quality documentation and update records in production and ERP systems.
- Follow all company safety procedures and comply with PPE requirements.
Collaboration and Flexibility
- Work closely with supervisors and leads to support production schedules.
- Assist with cross-training and provide support to other machines or departments as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Participate in production meetings and contribute to process improvement discussions.
Qualifications
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and production specifications.
- Mechanical aptitude with strong problem-solving skills.
- Basic math skills (measurements, counting, waste tracking).
- Effective communication skills and the ability to follow instructions.
- Flexibility to learn and operate multiple types of machinery.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced production environment.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous machine operation experience in manufacturing, printing, packaging, or laser cutting preferred.
- Experience with laser cutters, folder-glu ers, water jet equipment, or similar machinery is helpful but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work safely around moving machinery, sharp tools, and production equipment.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing floor with varying noise levels.
- PPE required.
- Overtime or extended hours may be required during busy production periods.
