Role Summary
Precisely align, tune, and calibrate RF/microwave circuits, filters, oscillators, and integrated modules to meet performance targets (gain flatness, noise figure, phase noise, VSWR, insertion/return loss). Collaborate with Engineering to optimize procedures and improve yield.
Key Responsibilities
- Precision Alignment & Tuning: Perform detailed alignment of RF chains and subassemblies using VNAs, spectrum analyzers, and power meters; adjust trimmers, bias points, and couplers to bring units into spec.
- Calibration & Verification: Calibrate fixtures and verify measurement uncertainty; run S-parameter sweeps and limit tests; document calibration status.
- Performance Optimization: Optimize parameters such as gain, P1dB, noise figure, phase noise, and return loss across temperature/lot variance as required by the traveler.
- Failure Analysis Support: When a unit cannot be brought into spec, capture data, identify likely fault domains, and partner with RF Technicians/Engineering for root cause and rework plans.
- Procedure Development: Provide feedback to refine alignment procedures, fixtures, and golden-unit references; maintain configuration control of align-steps.
- Documentation & Traceability: Record all adjustments, test plots, and as-found/as-left data in the traveler/ME route; ensure audit-ready records.
Core Qualifications
- Education/Experience: 2–7 years aligning/tuning RF/microwave products (defense/aerospace preferred).
- Technical Skills: Deep fluency with vector network analyzers (S-parameters), spectrum analyzers (phase noise, spurs), fixture calibration (SOLT/TRL), and RF troubleshooting fundamentals.
- Standards/Quality: Comfortable operating under formal test procedures and strict documentation/quality systems (e.g., AS9100).
- Dexterity/Detail: Excellent fine-motor work for component adjustments; ability to hold tight tolerances and repeat results across builds.
