Job Title: Fabrication Lead
Department/Location: Fabrication – Brooklyn Park, MN
Reports To: Production Manager
Schedule: 1st Shift – Monday–Thursday, 6:00 AM–3:30 PM; Friday, 6:00 AM–10:00 AM
Pay Range: $27.00 – $33.00 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)
Position Summary
The Fabrication Lead is responsible for overseeing and facilitating daily operations within the Fabrication Department to ensure safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency standards are met. This role combines hands-on production work with leadership responsibilities, including training, scheduling, equipment oversight, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Safety

Maintain a safe working environment and ensure all team members follow safety protocols.

Monitor and work toward achieving measurable safety metrics for the department.
Production Operations
-
Prioritize work using the dispatch list for each work center.
-
Set up and operate fabrication equipment to meet production schedules.

Ensure departmental metrics for productivity, delivery, and quality are achieved.
Production Leadership

Train team members on equipment, processes, and safety procedures.

Enforce rules, regulations, and procedures.
-
Provide technical support, including equipment maintenance coordination.

Coach employees to foster skill development and a positive, high-performance culture.

Fill in for the Production Manager as needed.
Inventory Management

Monitor and maintain sheet and coil stock to ensure adequate supply.

Ensure products are cycle counted and inventory records are accurate.
ERP System Utilization

Run and post the dispatch list regularly to maintain workflow efficiency.

Ensure components are available for downstream internal customers.

Train employees to enter accurate transactional data for counts and costs in the ERP system.
Continuous Improvement & Lean Practices

Lead and facilitate continuous improvement initiatives using Lean tools.

Maintain departmental whiteboards, participate in daily meetings, and conduct Gemba walks.

Support and help implement plantwide 5S and visual workplace initiatives.

Document and ensure adherence to best practices.
Team Management

Assist in recruiting, retaining, and developing team members.

Provide input on performance evaluations and staffing levels.

Mentor employees to promote professional growth and departmental success.
Additional Duties

Perform other duties as assigned by the Production Manager.
Qualifications
Experience:
-
Minimum of 3 years of metal fabrication experience preferred.
Knowledge & Skills:
-
Strong understanding of fabrication processes, equipment, and tooling.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints.

Proficiency in training others on fabrication equipment.
-
Familiarity with ERP systems and quality standards.
Education:
-
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Physical Requirements
-
Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
-
Capability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.

Manual dexterity and visual acuity for precision fabrication work.
