Job Title:               CNC Set up Technician


Reports to:           Supervisor




General Description:

Produces machined parts, operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine, reads programs and blueprints, maintains and improves quality and safety standards; keeps and creates records; maintains equipment and supplies.


Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform CNC Operations:
  • Conduct all set-up and quality operations in support of machining for self and others.
  • Set-up and Operate machines in accordance with process sheets and any other required paperwork (i.e. drawings, specifications, etc.).
  • Create, edit and/or retrieve CNC programs from system files and execute.
  • Use manufacturing paperwork (travelers, blueprints, sketches, etc) to: manufacture product that meets quality requirements. Inspect and verify work prior to submitting for inspection. If non-conforming, process via non-conforming material procedures
  • Meet time and schedule standards for assigned work
  • Correctly process work via required paperwork and MRP system.
  • Advise supervision of issues that arise.
  • Perform non-CNC tasks when necessary: non-CNC equipment operation, hand-work operations, inspections, saw-cut operations, etc.
  • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Able to do offset, compensations, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
  • Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications
  • Willing to work OT as needed 


Highly desired but not required:

  • 2+ years of experience

Job Description

Position Summary

Provides strategic direction and tactical management to ensure the successful supply of product within the requirements and timelines established in conjunction with our customers.


  • Promote quality achievements and performance improvements throughout the organization.
  • In conjunction with the Corporate Quality Systems Coordinator, maintain the division’s internal audit schedule to ensure all company policies and procedures are in compliance with the Company’s quality system requirements.
  • Assist the Director of Quality, as well as the Production team to maintain product supply and help introduce new products.
  • Investigate quality concerns, problem solve issues in an effective and timely manner to achieve customer/company satisfaction.
  • Work with purchasing staff to establish quality requirements from external suppliers.
  • Ensure compliance with national and international quality standards and legislation.
  • Ensure tests and procedures are properly understood, carried out and evaluated, and that product modifications are investigated if necessary.
  • Supervise technical staff in carrying out tests and checks.
  • Write technical and management systems reports and provide to Director of Quality.
  • Assist Director of Quality in bringing together staff of different disciplines and driving the group to plan, formulate and manage the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and systems pertaining to the SQDCM model.
  • Set QA compliance objectives and ensure that targets are achieved.
  • Define quality procedures in conjunction with operating staff.
  • Assist Director of Quality in setting up, maintaining controls and documentation procedures and control of all quality data.
  • Liaise with customers’ auditors and ensure the execution of corrective action and compliance with customers’ specifications.
  • Monitor performance by gathering relevant data and producing statistical reports against defined parameters.
  • Assist Director of Quality in establishing standards of service for customers or clients.
  • Assist Direct of Quality in organizing and managing quality assurance functions in close co-operation with customers and the rest of the Company’s Management team.
  • Write/Edit and maintain Quality work instructions.
  • Collect and evaluate PPAP data, FMEAs, Control Plans, Blueprints and work procedures.
  • Corrective Action Reports (8d’s), QMS, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA and SPC.
  • Gauge calibration and scheduling.
  • Safety Alerts.
  • Complete tasks that are required to support positive trending on the Group scorecard with respect to quality.
  • Identify relevant quality-related training needs, develop and deliver training.
  • Perform any other duties, as required.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an applied science or engineering field

Work Experience

  • 5 year’s prior experience working in the manufacturing industry, preferably in a stamping facility



Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge and understanding of stamping production practices and tooling requirements
  • Knowledge and understanding of general die repair practices
  • Knowledge of TS/ISO standards and understanding of all organizational processes and procedures
  • Intermediate computer skills including Excel, MSWord, Outlook, basic AutoCAD (i.e., ability to pull and read drawings)


  • Ability to perform well in high pressure situations.
  • Strong leadership, coaching and mentoring skills.
  • High level of communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Solid problem solving, decision making and judgement.
  • Mediating and negotiating employee and plant issues.
  • High level of confidentiality.

Working Conditions

40 - 60 hours per week as scheduled.

Job Description

The Quality Technician is responsible for direct examination of product to ensure that quality standards and procedures are met and aligned with the legislation and customer specifications. Requiring a high level of attention to detail, the Quality Technician is responsible for strictly adhering to the organization’s quality assurance policies, and identifying defects and production errors in order to prevent these materials from reaching our customers.


· Inspect production material as assigned for defects as trained:

· Remove defective items from production, designating reason for removal (hold tags and log);

· Report defects to Manager;

· Perform internal QA audits that are compliant with company policies and procedures;

· Assist with the maintenance of QA monitoring programs (audits, controls etc);
