TEMPORARY Purchasing Agent for 6-8 Weeks

Primary Purpose:  Purchase production supplies and maintenance repair and operating (MRO) items to ensure maximum efficiency in the shops.  Train and provide guidance to Purchasing Agent I’s.  Coordinate purchasing related projects or initiatives.


Essential Functions:

  • Purchasing
    • Purchase supplies and MRO items.  Perform data entry and maintain database of purchased items.
    • Interface with all departments and resolve problems and issues with needed purchase items.
    • Monitor open purchase orders to ensure delivery schedules are met.
    • Confer with vendors to obtain product information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.
    • Participate in the company’s physical inventory functions.
    • Troubleshoot quantity and pricing discrepancies and quantity issues with vendors and personnel.
    • Coordinate purchasing related projects and/or company-wide purchasing related initiatives.
    • Train less experienced Purchasing Agents.
    • Provide guidance to less experienced Purchasing Agents.
    • Provide purchasing related system training as needed.
    • Act as the go-to person related to purchasing related items in the absence of the Manager.
  • Other
    • Maintain a clean, neat, and safe work environment at all times.
    • Operate and maintain equipment in a safe manner at all times. 
    • Promote strong company image and maintain positive working relationships at all times including professional behavior with customers, vendors, management, and co-workers (daily basis).
    • Provide outstanding customer service at all times.
    • Perform work according to established company policies and procedures.
    • Perform other duties as requested.



Job Requirements


  • Education: 
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: 
    • Five years of purchasing or related experience.
    • Knowledge of inventory stocking and/or purchasing software a plus.
  • Other:
    • Professional certification (CPM, CPIM, etc.) a plus.
    • Working knowledge of procurement techniques, procedures and policies.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills.
    • Strong time management and multitasking skills.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Strong personal computer skills including Microsoft software.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Ability to perform basic math functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
    • Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple to complex written and verbal instructions.
    • Ability to understand, perform, and retain various job related training, operational, and safety procedures.
    • Ability to exercise initiative, judgment, and decision making related to routine duties within set company standards.
    • Travel may be required.
