A manufacturing client of ours in the Cadillac, MI area is in need of an Automation Technician for their night shift. In this role you will provide comprehensive production and technical support of robotic work cells, and automated equipment to minimize machine down-time and optimize productivity.

Duties of an Automation Technician: 

  • Responds quickly and efficiently to production downtime situations to maximize machine up-time.
  • Perform preventive Maintenance, PLC programming and troubleshooting on automated work cells and equipment properly documenting maintenance performed and identifying potential items in need of future maintenance.
  • Properly follow spare parts management procedure to identify, inventory and properly store critical spare parts.
  • Perform continuous improvement projects to enhance work cell productivity.
  • Perform Process Verification procedure on automated work cells and follow the Process Deviation Procedure when changing necessary perimeters.
  • Communicate work cell issues, specific machine issues, work cell down time etc. using communication methods provided.
  • Use I Maintenance Software to record appropriate PM, downtime and spare parts information.
  • Effectively troubleshoot and coordinate repairs without supervision.
  • Adhere to Hutchinson’s Safety practices including lockout/Tag-out.  Focus on safety should primarily be the main objective when troubleshooting or working on equipment.  Also report immediately any potential safety issues on work cells pertaining to machine function, operator interface, or work methods.
  • Attend necessary training classes or seminars as directed by the Department Manager.
  • Any other duties as directed by the Department Manager.
  • Knowledge and practice of Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, procedures and requirements.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, minimum 5 years relevant experience, journeyman electrician or technical degree
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks.
  • Good communication skills  (written and verbal)
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in related field
  • Successful completion of hi lo and scissor lift operation and certification.
  • Able to work without supervision from written and verbal communications.
  • Must be able to work additional hours, any shift or day as required to maintain plant operations
