A client of ours in the Lansing, MI area is searching for a Maintenance Manager for their direct hire job opportunity. This role is starting at $65K and up salary range based off experience. 

In this role you will be responsible for managing and coordinating activities of the maintenance department to support manufacturing operations, equipment and processes.  Planning the utilization of equipment, facilities, materials, and maintenance personnel to improve throughput, inventory and operating expenses.  Supporting new products, processes and tooling.  Responsible for leading maintenance systems, overseeing the continuous improvement of maintenance department processes and procedures.

Duties of a Maintenance Manager:

  • Oversee the installation, repair and upkeep of property, including machines, mechanical systems, and buildings. 
  • Plans, directs, and coordinates maintenance processes in plant; develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.
  • Responsible for effective utilization and upkeep of PLCs and robotics.
  • Prioritizes the maintenance and repair of company equipment and parts to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Coordinates with planning, design and engineering staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
  • Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arranges for purchase of equipment, materials, parts, and evaluated products according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Confers with management, engineering and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, workflow, plant layouts and other considerations to facilitate efficient production processes.
  • Schedule, train, supervise and motivate employees in the maintenance department.
  • Coordinate work performed by outside vendors.
  • Control and monitor department inventory.
  • Guides the need for change for the purpose of improving methods by the use of measurable standards, goals and accountability for improvement.
  • Responsible for effective preventative/predictive maintenance program.
  • Responsible for 5S standards in the department.
  • Coordinates maintenance documents to comply with the Quality Management System.
  • Administration of apprenticeship program and other training programs.
  • Required to adhere to applicable IATF and ISO 14001 requirements.
  • Required to adhere to plant safety and EMS requirements as established by company policy and OSHA standards. 
  • Must promote safety awareness throughout the organization.
  • Work involves frequent verbal and written communication with team members, vendors and customers. 
  • Other assignments and responsibilities as required to support organizational and team objectives. 

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of an Industrial, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering bachelor’s degree, or equivalent in experience. 
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical concepts, including electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems.
  • Working knowledge of PLCs and robotics.
  • Minimum of five years of maintenance management experience in manufacturing, preferably in automotive interior trim and systems. 
  • Working knowledge of the IATF 16949 and ISO 14001 standards and their application to the operation as a whole.
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Office programs.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task and handle shifting priorities. 
  • Ability to use judgment and initiative to contribute effectively to department and organization objectives.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to effectively lead personnel within the department.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
  • May be required to lift a minimum of 25 pounds overhead.
  • May be required to travel and work extended hours to ensure operational goals are achieved.
  • Six Sigma experience preferred.
  • Must be capable of effectively interfacing with all levels of the workforce.
