One of our manufacturing client of ours in the Grand Rapids, MI area is searching for Automation Technicians on 2nd and 3rd shift. The pay for this role is experience based. The Automation Technician performs machine repairs, projects, refurbishments, rebuilds, and preventive/predictive maintenance activities.  The Automation Technician performs preventive maintenance work as assigned and scheduled by the CMMS.  The Automation Technician responds to machine repair calls and projects as assigned or directed by the Maintenance Supervisor.

Duties of an Automation Technician: 

  • Completion of assigned equipment PM activities as scheduled by CMMS.
  • Repair and troubleshoot injection press mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Repair and troubleshoot cementing/coating mechanical, electrical, and spraying systems.
  • Repair and troubleshoot of robots and robotic assembly cells, including EOAT.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues using machine schematics and assembly drawings.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot and modify PLC programming, HMI development, and vision camera configurations.  Basic PLC program development for machines.
  • Navigate, program, and teach robot positions and programs, including I/O and EOAT.
  • Plan and complete projects, refurbishments, and rebuilds.
  • Complete and accurately enter work activity into CMMS.
  • Daily housekeeping and 5S of work areas and maintenance shop.
  • Knowledge and practice of Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, procedures, and requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.  Technical certification or journeyman in related area.
  • Minimum four(4) years of equivalent experience.
  • Must be able to navigate and input data into CMMS.
  • Must be able to use the computer to connect to various PLCs, HMIs, and vision systems using correct software and hardware configurations.
  • Hilo (fork truck) operator’s license.  Scissor lift operator’s license.
  • Must possess applicable knowledge of PLC and robotic systems, including programming and troubleshooting.
  • Must understand the role and function of the maintenance organization in a manufacturing environment.
