Job Title: Lab Technician (Contract)

Job Location:  Robinson, IL  

Monday - Friday 6:00 am - 2:00 pm 

 

Summary:

The Technologist Lab will be responsible for performing microbiological product and environmental testing, managing sampling program and assuring compliance to Product Quality and Environmental Microbiological Monitoring Programs.

 

Responsibilities:   

  • Conduct routine and non-routine analysis of in-process materials, raw materials, environmental samples, finished goods, or stability samples.
  • Complete documentation needed to support testing procedures including data capture forms, equipment, logbooks, or inventory forms.
  • Interpret test results, compare them to established specifications and control limits, and communication of results.
  • Performs non-routine work operating complex equipment.
  • Validates the effectiveness of cleaning procedures utilizing microbiological testing.
  • Coordinates lab workflow and collaborates with Hershey Lab Techs and QA Specialists on a coverage basis if needed. [WC1] [CB2] [CB3] 
  • Supports the Process Operating Guide (POG) Program within the plant.
  • Performs quality system audit activities as necessary which may include internal or external customers[WC4] [CB5] [CB6] . 
  • Operates/troubleshoots complex lab equipment and responds to equipment malfunctions.
  • Participates in collaborative studies to maintain lab procedure knowledge.

 

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform major duties/responsibilities:

Special work hour or assignment requirements:

  • Although primarily a "day-shift" position, must be flexible with work hours, including some weekend work. 

 

Key working relationships that must be developed or maintained:

  • This role reports to the Food Safety Compliance Specialist
  • Team working relationship with operations technical leads (OTLs), supervisors and maintenance supervisors. 
  • Establish and sustain effective relationships with all employees to foster an environment where innovation and cooperation are used to solve problems.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication and analytical skills.

Technology:

  • Microsoft Office Software Products Experience
  • SAP Quality & LIMS Experience (preferred)[WC8] [CB9] [CB10] 

 

Other:

  • Strong computer and document management skills with attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with all levels to deliver timely results
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to influence management enabling the direction of activities of teams of employees that do not have direct reporting to this role
  • Ability to interact effectively with 3rd party and internal auditors

 

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: 

  • B.S. in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field (preferred)
  • 1 years of related experience
  • Knowledge of federal and state food industry regulations
  • Understanding of sanitation practices
  • Strong auditing / assessment skills
  • Knowledge of manufacturing operations
  • Familiarity with HACCP/FSMA Preventive Controls
  • Familiarity with GFSI standards desired
