Environmental, Safety, Health, & Security (ESHS) Assistant

Location: Lafayette, IN

Part Time shift:

  • 9AM - 3PM core schedule with options to work full shifts or half shifts 
  • 20 hours per week with potential to increase

Job summary: This position is part of a multi-skilled team working in EHS with a focus on Process Safety Management and ESHS document management and records retention.  This role will perform a variety of day-to-day work that supports administrative tasks for the Tippecanoe Laboratories Environmental, Safety, Health and Security document management along with other tasks described below.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Assist with documentation and activities required for preparation, creation, approval, and electronic transfer of PHA reports and recommendations.
  • Review documents for completion, e.g. checking for approval signatures and dates, ensuring all sections are included in a report.
  • Communicate requests, status updates, and deadlines between different departmental teams.
  • Maintain ESHS library in the day-to-day activities of requests, filing, creating, and managing the workflow of the ESHS documents for the plant site in an organized manner.
  • Assist during internal and/or external audits in order to retrieve paperwork needed from the Tippecanoe Laboratories Central Library for the audits.
  • Archive/purge records annually according to the Site Records Retention Schedule.
  • Coordinate with ESHS and Central Library for off-site document storage facility (Iron Mountain).
  • Assist with documentation collection and retention required for Contractor Safety Management Program and other ESHS programs.
  • Complete all required ESHS training and remain current with applicable learning plans at all times.
  • Report all injuries to Employee Health Services or Security and supervision within the same shift of the incident occurring.
  • Inform direct supervision of any ESHS hazards or concerns in the workplace.
  • Provide feedback and coaching to coworkers on both safe and unsafe behaviors and conditions.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required. 
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs without assistance on a routine basis (paper boxes).
  • Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), when applicable.
  • Ability to ascend/descend stairs.
  • Previous clerical experience in an office setting with computer proficiency (Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat DC, etc.) or previous experience in a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Understands and follows the departmental expectations regarding attendance, accountability, and communication with supervision.
  • Maintains and retrieves manual and computerized records and files.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and attention to detail skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with varied personnel / multiple levels in the organization.
  • Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure with aggressive deadlines.
  • Previous use or ability to learn electronic systems for managing documents, action plans, PHA reports, etc. such as TrackWise, PHAPro, MS Access, etc. and becomes familiar with them to  support ESHS activities.
