POSITION SUMMARY:  Under general supervision, set up and operate machine shop equipment to manufacture high quality machined parts using the most efficient method.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Manufacture parts from engineering drawings and written and verbal instructions.
• Set up and operate all standard machine shop equipment and some CNC equipment according to approved methods and standards 
• Check minor alignments and readjust equipment as needed to maximize machine output
• Grind and/or sharpen standard, special, and form tools
• Produces special tooling and parts using prototype drawings or sketches
• Monitor and troubleshoot equipment to identify and correct mechanical problems and minimize scrap
• Maintain accurate logs of equipment status, production status and minor problems
• Maintain neat and orderly work area
• Meet all quality, quantity, and established manufacturing practices to satisfy customer and regulatory requirements

EDUCATION:  High school diploma/GED or education/experience equivalent. Vocational education in Machine Tool courses preferred.

EXPERIENCE:  3-5 years’ machine shop experience.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:  

• Knowledge of machine tool set-up, machining methods, and procedures
• Ability to use shop mathematics, blueprints, specifications, and precision measuring devices
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving ability
• Good hand-eye coordination
• Ability to follow verbal and written work instructions
• Ability to adhere to machine shop safety practices
