Crystal Lab Technician needed in Oak Ridge!

 

$24.00- $26.00/hour depending on experience 

Monday to Friday 

6am to 2pm or 7am to 3pm

 

The Crystal Lab Technician position provides technical support in the production of germanium radiation detectors by growing detector grade, single-crystal, high- purity Ge (HPGe). Maintains and troubleshoots crystal growth equipment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Acid etches and loads germanium charge and quartz crucible into crystal growing furnace
  • Operates furnace to produce high-purity germanium crystal suitable for detector manufacturing
  • Cleans and maintains crystal growth equipment and associated etch sink/clean room
  • Prepares and documents zone refined ingots for use in the crystal growth process
  • Maintains record and log books on crystals and crystal growth machines
  • Assists in general mechanical and electrical maintenance of equipment, as required
  • Assists in quality control and yield assurance and inventory control
  • Must be able to work in a clean room environment

 

Physical Demand:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Job Requirements

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Associate degree (A.A) or equivalent from 2 year college or technical school and 2 years related experience

                 OR

  • 8 years of directly related experience 

 

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent

 

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence 
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization

 

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

 

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Employee must preserve work environment by not introducing any particulates external to the lab through personal habits, such as smoking.
