Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Hires and manages the Purchasing personnel.
  • Oversees the daily workflow and schedules of the department.
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Responsible for document control for vendor approval, product costing, and managing co-manufacturing production.
  • Collaborates with other departments and leadership to identify and develop needs and requirements for equipment, materials, products, and acceptable substitutions.
  • Assesses current material availability; reasonably predicts future availability based on the market, delivery systems, and other variables.
  • Prepares and presents market conditions and merchandise cost reports.
  • Prepares and processes purchase orders and requisitions for materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Drafts, explains, and implements instructions, policies, and procedures for purchasing and contract management.
  • Evaluates and approves conditions for issuing and awarding bids.
  • Resolves grievances with vendors, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Maintains and/or implements purchasing and recordkeeping systems.
  • Acts as the company’s representative in negotiations with suppliers.
  • Coordinates removal or disposal of surplus materials. 
  • Administers the departmental budget.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • This position reports to the Office Manager.
  • This position covers the Senior Purchasing Agent in the event of absence and vice versa.
  • The COO/Plant Manager covers the scheduling function in the event of absence of the Supply Chain Analyst. Communicates with individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or certification in one of the following fields: Certified Purchasing Supply Chain (CPSM) / Certified Supply Chain Professional (SCCP) or similar required.
  • At least five years of purchasing/buyer experience in related field required.
  • Familiar with purchasing law (T’s and C’s).
  • Experience with enterprise business software (e.g., Great Plains, SAP, JD Edwards).
  • Must be able to read and speak English.
  • Occasionally lifting and/or carrying small items (files, manuals, binders) up to 35 pounds maximum.
  • Occasionally bending, walking, and standing.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to access all areas of the facility to determine needs.
  • May require periodic travel.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Working in an office environment within a food processing facility. The production and warehouse areas that may have wet floors, humid and/or dusty conditions. The ambient noise level in the food processing area does not currently require the use of ear plugs, although these are available.  Facility regularly processes known food allergens.
