A client of ours, located in Mason, MI, is currently seeking an experienced Journeyman Toolmaker and Die Repairer. This is a 2nd or 3rd shift opportunity with a reputable automotive manufacture. The hourly pay for a Journeyman Toolmaker starts out at $14 hourly and goes up to $30 an hour based on experience. All work will be performed in a factory setting that practices social distancing and all Covid-19 safety protocols.

Duties of Journeyman Tool Maker and Die Repairer include:

• Plans the setup and operation of all types of machine shop tools, considering types of material, tolerances, types of cutting tools, coolants, lubricants, and machine tool feeds and speeds.
• Heat treats and welds parts as required.
• Determines specifications for inspection of work, using precision measuring and gauging tool, performing required inspection before, during and after machining/repair
• Performs hand operations involved in producing fixtures, tools, jogs, and dies. Uses hand tools of the trade.
• Fits and assembles fixtures, tools and dies. Sets up, runs off, and tests dies to produce a product to specifications, tracing die difficulties to their source and correcting same.
• Repair tooling as required while setup in the production equipment.
• Will work collectively with any other department in the plant on the build or repair of any machinery.
• Will work with product designers providing input to manufacturing capability on newly formed products.
• Will provide own tools

Job Requirements

• Know how to skillfully operate a lathe, surface grinder, id/od grinder, and mill, spotting press, radial arm drills and any other related tool room equipment.
• Must have experience with trim tool build and repair
• Ability to reads and interprets blueprints or works from verbal or written instructions or from the part to be copied or fitted.
• Ability to communicate in English both orally and in writing, effectively
• Ability to work independently or in a team environment
• Ability to lift 50 pounds
• Ability to stand for long periods of time
• Be able to work overtime
• Be able to follow directions of a supervisor
• Be cooperative with other employees
• Active Journeymen's Card/Certificate required
